-A decision support system integrated with ERP to optimise operations and costs

 

After an initial focus on the unification of its operational management processes, namely with SAP ERP, Eurocopter turned its attention to process optimisation. In 2006, Eurocopter commenced a large scale decision support initiative using SAP "Business Intelligence" solutions as a starting point. The initiative began with finance and working capital requirements, quality, and then moved to "supply chain", working on a cross functional basis through an "On-time delivery" project. This project helped track compliance of deadlines and perform variance analysis from finished products to related sets of sub components and suppliers. In less than two years, Eurocopter Implemented an integrated end-to-end decision support solution to manage operations.

- A BI platform to boost revenue opportunities

In 2008, Eurocopter wanted to extend the scope of its Data Warehouse to support its customer knowledge and optimise service activities. Both had become essential to responding to the economic environment and customers' demands for further assistance with operation of helicopter fleets'.  Eurocopter aimed to extend their Aircrafts and Service offerings to ensure customer flight capability expectations were met. Hence, information about aircraft configuration, flight time, flight recorder data, sensor data, parts replacement, etc. was necessary to enable forecasting and planning of maintenance and supply chain tasks.

 

From a business point of view, these challenges meant that Eurocopter's BI platform had to satisfy new requirements. The source system was no longer solely SAP but Oracle Siebel CRM, configuration management tools (PDM), customers maintenance tools, specific (Java) developments, etc.  Customer data had to be integrated into internal systems and analysed by a large number of business users, creating a strong need for a user friendly solution. Moreover, some users required access to ad hoc data and the ability to reformat the data for creation of complex reports. Business & Decision presented Eurocopter with the most up to date innovations in "Business Intelligence Platforms", resulting from the SAP and Business Objects merger.

- Successful implementation of the "SAP BI environment"

The successful implementation of the new SAP Business Objects "Business Intelligence" platform is the result of a joint program between Business & Decision and SAP. Both companies worked closely together, prior to marketing this solution, to develop tools to communicate the benefits and to translate those benefits into advantages for customer. Some ten customers in the United States, Switzerland, Benelux, Great Britain and France have already implemented these tools as part of a program of continuous improvement of their "Business Intelligence" platforms.
